I'm in Love with The Modern World acquired by Soho Theatre Walthamstow
We're very happy to announce that D J Roberts' neon text piece ‘I’M IN LOVE WITH THE MODERN WORLD’ is now on permanent display in Soho Theatre Pub in Walthamstow.
‘I’M IN LOVE’ was originally installed on the Poundland store in Walthamstow High Street, and the line is taken from a song by the American singer/songwriter Jonathan Richman, where a boy and a girl hang out together and have fun and fall in love.
There was a real possibility that this much loved public artwork would disappear from view when the store was bought by a new owner. We managed to save it, Soho Theatre acquired it, and the original fabricator of the piece Nick Malyon restored it to its former glory!
What better place for it then than Soho Theatre Pub, a warm, welcoming venue with street smart decor where Soho Theatre audiences, artists and the local community can enjoy a meet up and a drink. The food’s great too, provided by award winning chef James Cochran. Check it out!
